In what became her third career title at this level, Anastasia Potapova overcame Lucia Bronzetti 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the tournament. This was after the defending champion Karolína Plíšková opted out of the tournament.
Having entered the tournament as the top seed, Potapova defeated Julia Grabher in the first round before crashing Viktorija Golubic’s party in the second round.
Potapova then overcame Ella Seidel and Aliaksandra Sasnovich to make the final.
Simona Halep featured in the tournament after after losing in the first round, called it quits from professional tennis.
What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the WTA Cluj-Napoca?
Having struggled at the highest level in recent times, Karolína Plíšková finally broke her WTA title winning drought when she overcame Ana Bogdan in the title-decider to grab the title.
Pliskova won 6–4, 6–3 in the final, having not dropped a single set throughout the competition in the lead-up to her 17th title at the highest level and the first in four years.
The former world number one, who would go on to make it to the final of the Nottingham Open as well in 2024, was tested in the opening round by Sinja Kraus before dropping just five games over the next two rounds.
In the semifinals she eased past Harriet Dart to set up a decider with the eighth seeded Bogdan.
Defending champion Tamara Korpatsch fell in the first round while Arantxa Rus, the top seed, was the only seeded player to make the quarterfinals other than Bogdan.
