A wildcard entrant in the competition, Belinda Bencic went on to clinch the title when she defeated Ashlyn Krueger in an all-unseeded final.
Bencic, who had only recently returned to the competitive tennis after her maternity leave, came back from a set down in the final to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. It was her ninth title in her career at the highest level.
In getting to the final, Bencic had overcome Rebecca Sramkova in the first round, then double-bagelled Veronika Kudermetova in the second, before overcoming Marketa Vondrousova and top seeded Elena Rybakina to make the final.
Krueger had surprised Daria Kasatkina and Leylah Fernandez on her way to the title-decider.
What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the WTA Abu Dhabi?
Elena Rybakina did not have any difficulties in getting past Daria Kasatkina in the final of the Abu Dhabi Open in 2024.
Seeded number one in the competition, Rybakina had a first round bye in the tournament and dropped a set in two of her matches in entire tournament before making it through to her seventh title win at this level.
She overcame a one-set deficit against Danielle Collins in the second round before losing a set to Liudmilla Samsonova in the semifinals.
Kasatkina overcame a third set tie-breaker against Beatriz Haddad Maia in the semifinals. Haddad Maia had earlier taken down the second seeded Ons Jabeur in the quarterfinal.
