What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the WTA Austin Open?

In a shocking match-up for the final, Chinese players Yue Yuan and Wang Xiyu faced off to try and capture a rare WTA title. It was Yuan who won her maiden title, defeating Xiyu 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the title-decider.

It was the first time in 18 years that two Chinese players had made the final of a women’s tennis event outside their own country.

Earlier, Xiyu had sent the top seeded Anhelina Kalinina packing from the semifinals, while Yuan did not face a single seeded player in the entire tournament till she made the final.

This was after the defending champion and the winner of the first ever edition of the Austin Open, Marta Kostyuk opted to feature at the San Diego Open instead of this.
