First played in 2001, it was held every year till 2008 before returning to the WTA circuit in 2011. Following Martina Hingis becoming the first ever winner at this competition, it was the turn of Monica Seles, Maria Sharapova, Justine Henin to win it in its first stint.

Venue
The 2025 edition of the women’s Qatar Open will be held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex like it has always been held. This arena has a capacity of over 7000 for the tennis tournaments, having increased from 4500 way back in 2007.
With 24 tennis courts in the arena, it is one of more sparkling venues on the women’s tennis tour.

What Happened in the 2024 Edition of the WTA Doha?
Iga Swiatek made it three titles in a row at the Qatar Open when she lifted the 2024 edition of the competition, beating Elena Rybakina in the final. She won 7-6 (8), 6-2.
The world number one grabbed the competition win without dropping a set, following a first round bye.
She overcame Sorana Cirstea in the second round, crushed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third, made a mincemeat of Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals before getting a bye from Karolina Pliskova in the semifinals.
Second seeded Cori Gauff was bundled out from her very first match, losing to Katerina Siniakova in the second round.
